We went to Loquita in Santa Barbara for my birthday dinner, and the setting made an impression before the food even arrived. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating, but on a clear evening I would choose the patio every time.
The outdoor space feels tucked away from the street. Flowers climb the walls, small lights glow above the tables, and the whole patio becomes warmer as the sky gets darker. It is relaxed enough for dinner with friends, but easily romantic enough for a date night.
Starting slowly
We began with a glass of roja sangria and a strawberry limonada, followed by plates made for sharing. The mushroom croquetas, tortilla española, and patatas bravas made it easy to try a little of everything without rushing into the main dish.
The dish I would return for
The standout was the paella verde. Loquita offers a vegetarian version, and it did not feel like an afterthought. The rice arrived covered with mushrooms, asparagus, artichokes, peppers, and generous spoonfuls of sauce. It was colorful, substantial, and easily the dish I would order again.
We ended with churros and a small birthday dessert. By then the patio lights were fully glowing and the restaurant had settled into that comfortable evening energy where no one feels in a hurry to leave.
